Miss Ghana USA was FOUNDED by Gloria Abena Ofosuah Opare in 2009. Born in Accra, and from the Eastern Region of Ghana, Kwahu District. She spent most of her childhood in Ghana, moving to United States when she was 11 years old. Since then, she has split time living in each country and is uniquely ingrained in both cultures.

Miss Opare attended Oklahoma State University on a track and field SCHOLARSHIP before transferring to the University of Texas at San Antonio to study International Business. After the birth of her son, she obtained her real estate license and pursued a successful CAREER in real estate. This endeavor included becoming a partner with an Austin, Texas firm and maintaining her status as an ACTIVE member of the San Antonio Board of Realtors and Austin Board of Realtors.

Miss Opare has always had an overwhelming desire to help others. During her childhood in Ghana, she saw firsthand the unfortunate impact of poor HEALTH CARE on family, friends and neighbors. This experience has ultimately inspired her to seek a CAREER in the medical field. Her original goal was to become a NURSE, but this dream was delayed when she moved permanently to the United States. While living in San Antonio, Miss Opare volunteered at the United States Air Force Base, Wilford Medical Center’s HIV department.

This time spent with critically-ill patients made her realize her true calling and rekindled her desire for a medical career. Now permanently settled in Austin, Texas, Miss Opare is currently completing her degree to become a licensed surgical technologist.

Miss Opare competed in several beauty pageants and placed in the 2001 Miss Ghana Canada. Having experienced the challenges of EARNING a good education, obtaining GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS, and paying for student loans, Miss Opare understands that participation in beauty pageants provides a way for young ladies to achieve their dreams. Therefore, in 2009, Miss Opare founded the Miss Ghana USA organization to promote young women of Ghanaian heritage and provide them an avenue to achieve goals and carry-out social and HUMANITARIAN initiatives.
